Dressing up in Green for the Holiday Season: A Throwback Look

hen dressing up for the Christmas holiday, the outfits options are endless based on textures; lace, velvet, sequins, faux fur, tulle, plaid....and then when it comes to colors, we are a bit limited as we mostly try to dress up in the season's colors especially when we are dressing up in solid colors. For example, most ladies would prefer to dress up in red for the holidays when choosing a solid color outfit that is not made sequins or velvet. Green is the other not so common holiday outfit color which is somewhat trending this season.

So, if you are still thinking of an outfit to put together for the Christmas holiday this year, consider getting something in green to spruce up your holiday look. It is a color that is suited for most skin tones and when shopping for a green color outfit, think textures; velvet, lace or sequins. This green velvet outfit above is what I wore last holiday season. I ordered the dress from H&M for less than $20 and I must say this is the last outfit I would order from that site as I know my style has greatly evolved. I never bothered to read the description of the dress thoroughly before making the purchase and I got a few surprises when it arrived in the mail. One, the dress was way too short and it had a large peek-a-boo opening at the back. I had to wear a black sequin top underneath, then I layered it with sheer black tights and completed the look with a vintage clutch.

My advice for you as you shop for that holiday outfit for yourself or your loved ones, is to take the time to read up all the descriptions and reviews of the outfit you are buying. Make sure you are okay with the fit/measurements and sizing of the outfit and also make sure the quality and color shade looks right to you. It does not hurt to also review the return policy of the store. And then back to this outfit, the quality was actually good for the price and after I layered a long coat over it, I kind of got over the short length. The pictures shown on the blog are sans the long coat. Check out the previous post here.

This is a throwback look of one of the outfits I wore last holiday season and in order not to spend money on a new outfit, I just shopped my closet. For this look, I paired a deep red color high neck top with this green circle skirt I purchased from Chicwish years ago. Anyone remember when circle skirts or midi skirts were on trend about three summers ago? I'm sure a couple ladies still have theirs at the back of their closets. Well, this is the time to get it out and create a Christmas outfit with it. There is no use running to the store to get a new outfit every season. How about you tuck in a grey sequin top into the skirt or a black lace skirt like I did in this post here?

My favorite beaded clutch blogged about here gets a good rotation every holiday season. Another styling option is to layer a blazer over the skirt and cinch the blazer with a matching belt; throw in some sparkly accessories or a beaded clutch and you are good to go. For my look above, I completed it with red plaid pumps which is also a nod to the holiday season. Check out the previous post here.
